Morning Sounds

A child listens carefully and discovers all the beautiful sounds of morning.

Zara sat up in bed. She closed her eyes. And she listened.

What sounds does a morning make?

"Tick, tick, tick," said the clock on the wall. Always counting. Never stopping.

"Sizzle, sizzle," said something in the kitchen. Was that eggs? Yum!

"Tweet, tweet, chirp!" said the birds outside. They were having a conversation!

"Swish, swish," said the curtains when the wind blew in.

"Patter, patter," said tiny feet in the hallway. That was her little brother!

"Click," said the light switch. Papa was awake!

"Whoooosh," said the water in the bathroom. Mama was brushing her teeth!

Zara opened her eyes and smiled. So many sounds! Mornings are like music!

She got out of bed and added her own sound. "Good morning, everyone!" she called out.

"Good morning, Zara!" came back from everywhere. The best sound of all.

That day at the park, Zara listened to everything. The wind. The swings. The laughter. She heard it all.

"The world is full of sounds," she told her teddy bear at lunch. "You just have to listen."

And teddy bear agreed. Silently, of course.
