The Thank You Morning

A child discovers that saying thank you for little things makes mornings magical.

Kabir woke up grumpy. "I don't like mornings!" he said.

Papa sat on his bed. "Let's play a game. Can you find three things to say thank you to?"

"Thank you? To what?" said Kabir.

"To anything! Try it!"

Kabir looked around his room. He saw his blanket. It was warm and soft.

"Thank you, blanket, for keeping me warm," Kabir whispered.

He felt a tiny bit better.

He looked at the window. Sunlight was coming through. Warm and golden.

"Thank you, sun, for waking me up."

He felt a little more better.

He heard birds singing outside. Tweet, tweet, tweet!

"Thank you, birds, for the morning song."

Now Kabir was smiling! Three thank-yous and he felt different. Not grumpy at all!

He ran to the kitchen. "Thank you, Mama, for making breakfast! Thank you, Papa, for the game! Thank you, chair, for letting me sit!"

Mama and Papa laughed. Kabir was saying thank you to everything!

"How do you feel now?" asked Papa.

Kabir thought about it. "Happy," he said. "Really, really happy."

And that's the secret. When you look for things to be thankful for, happy finds you.
