The Brave Breakfast Taste

A boy finds the courage to try a new food and discovers something delicious.

Arjun only liked two things for breakfast. Toast and cereal. That's it. Nothing else.

"Try some idli," said Amma one morning. She put a soft, white, round thing on his plate.

"No!" said Arjun. "It looks weird."

"How about just one tiny bite?" said Amma. "Just to see?"

Arjun stared at the idli. It stared back. Well, not really, but it felt like it did.

"What if it tastes yucky?" he asked.

"Then you never have to eat it again," said Amma. "But what if it tastes amazing?"

Arjun thought about that. What if it DID taste amazing? And he was missing out? That would be terrible!

He picked up the tiniest piece. He dipped it in the coconut chutney like Amma showed him. He closed his eyes. He put it in his mouth.

His eyes flew open. "It's so soft! And the chutney is sweet and yummy!"

He took another bite. And another. And another. Before he knew it, the whole idli was gone.

"Can I have one more?" he asked.

Amma smiled her biggest smile. "Of course, my brave boy."

Now Arjun likes three things for breakfast. Toast, cereal, and idli with coconut chutney. And next week, he's going to try dosa. Because being brave is delicious.
