The Helpful Tree
A big friendly tree gives shade to a tired boy and discovers that helping makes you happy.
The tree stood tall. It gave shade every day.
One day, a boy came. He was tired. He had walked a long, long way. His feet were sore.
The tree spread its branches wide. "Come and rest," whispered the tree.
The boy sat under the cool shade. He drank water from his bottle. He ate an apple. He felt so much better!
"Thank you, tree," said the boy. He hugged the tree's big trunk.
The tree felt warm inside. Not from the sun. From something deeper. It was the warm feeling of helping.
A little bird landed on a branch. "That was very kind of you, tree," said the bird.
The tree smiled. "Helping made me happy," said the tree.
The boy waved goodbye and walked away, feeling strong again. And the tree stood tall, feeling the happiest tree in the whole forest.
