The Laughing Monkey
A playful monkey discovers that making others laugh is the best gift of all.
In the tall trees of the jungle, there lived a monkey named Miko. Miko loved to laugh. Ha ha ha! Hee hee hee! All day long!
But Miko's favorite thing was making others laugh too.
Miko swung upside down and made a funny face at the parrot. The parrot looked — and burst out laughing! "Ha ha ha! You look so silly, Miko!"
Miko did a silly dance for the elephant. The elephant watched — and trumpeted with laughter! "Ho ho ho! Do it again, Miko!"
Miko put a banana on its head like a hat and walked past the hippo. The hippo opened its big mouth — and laughed so hard the river splashed! "Hee hee hee! That is so funny!"
All the animals gathered around Miko. Everyone was laughing. The jungle was full of joy. Even the grumpy old crocodile cracked a smile!
"Why do you make everyone laugh, Miko?" asked the parrot.
Miko thought for a moment. "Because when everyone laughs, I feel happy inside. Their joy is my joy."
The animals cheered. "We love you, Miko!"
And the jungle went to sleep that night with smiles on every face.
