The Night Owl's First Flight
A baby owl overcomes its fear and flies for the very first time.
A little owl sat on a branch high up in the old oak tree. Below, the ground was very far away. Above, the moon was big and round.
"I am scared," said the little owl. Its tiny wings trembled.
Mama Owl was nearby. "You can do it, little one. Just spread your wings."
The little owl looked down. Then looked up at the beautiful moon. The moon shined softly and whispered, "Try."
The little owl took a deep breath. It spread its wings wide. One... two... three!
Flap! Flap! Flap!
The little owl was flying! Really flying! The wind was cool and soft. The stars twinkled all around.
"I am doing it! I am flying!" hooted the little owl.
It swooped past the old pine tree. It circled around the pond where the frogs sang. It flew higher and higher until it was close to the moon.
"I was scared," said the owl. "But I tried. And now I can fly!"
Mama Owl flew beside it. "I am so proud of you."
Together, they flew through the beautiful night sky.
Goodnight, brave little owl. Goodnight.
