The Sharing Tree

A generous mango tree teaches the animals about sharing and friendship.

In the middle of a sunny garden, there grew a big mango tree. The tree loved all the animals who lived nearby. Every summer, the tree grew the sweetest, juiciest mangoes in the whole neighbourhood.

One hot afternoon, Squirrel came running. "Please, Mango Tree, I am so hungry! May I have a mango?"

The tree shook its branches and dropped a perfect golden mango. "Of course, little Squirrel! I have plenty to share."

Squirrel ate the mango happily. Then Crow flew down. "Mango Tree, my babies are hungry. Do you have any fruit for us?"

The tree dropped three more mangoes, one for each baby crow. "There you go, Crow. Feeding your family is important."

Then Monkey swung by. Then Parrot. Then even old Tortoise walked slowly, slowly to the tree. The Mango Tree gave fruit to everyone, happily and without keeping count.

But one day, a big storm came. The wind howled. The rain pounded. One of the tree's biggest branches cracked and fell down. The Mango Tree felt hurt and sad.

The next morning, all the animals came to visit. Squirrel brought soft moss to cover the wound. Crow sang a gentle song. Monkey tied the broken branch with strong vines. Parrot fanned the tree with her colourful wings. And Tortoise sat beside the tree all day, keeping it company.

"Thank you, friends," whispered the Mango Tree. "You are all so kind."

"You shared with us every single day," said Squirrel. "Now it is our turn to share with you."

The tree's leaves rustled softly, like a happy sigh. That evening, as the sun set in golden and pink, all the friends sat together under the mango tree, full and grateful.

Goodnight, Mango Tree. Goodnight, friends.
