What's Inside the Puddle?

A curious girl turns a rainy morning into a scientific adventure.

It was raining. Meera pressed her nose against the window. "I wish the rain would stop," she said sadly.

"Why?" asked Dada. "Rain makes the best adventures."

"It does?"

"Put on your rain boots," said Dada. "Let's go explore."

They went outside. There were puddles everywhere! Meera jumped in the first one. SPLASH! Water went flying.

"Look in the puddle," said Dada. "What do you see?"

Meera looked down. "I see me! My face is in the water!"

"That's a reflection," said Dada. "What else?"

Meera looked more carefully. She saw the sky in the puddle. She saw clouds. She saw a tree upside down. "There's a whole world in this puddle!" she gasped.

They found a leaf floating like a tiny boat. They found a worm wriggling on the path, and they moved it gently to the grass. They saw a rainbow forming in the sky.

"Rain brings so many things," said Dada. "Reflections, tiny boats, rescued worms, and rainbows."

Meera splashed in three more puddles on the way home. She was soaking wet and grinning from ear to ear.

"Dada, can it rain again tomorrow?" she asked.

Dada laughed. "Maybe! And if it does, we'll find even more things to discover."

Now Meera loves rainy mornings. Because rain doesn't stop adventures โ€” it starts them.
